Gumboots Anyone?

January 3, 2011

Sore. Sore. Sore. Oi Vey. I feel like I’m 80 years old today! Sore knee, sore thighs, sore bum, sore arms! Ridic!  Thankfully most of our day was spent traveling to New Zealand’s capital, Wellington. We got in a little late and have so far spent the day walking around the harbor, eating fish and chips and enjoying a little New Zealand beer. Ry and I will be here for 3 nights so the next two days we have plenty of time to wander through the museum, botanical gardens and other fun things we stumble on.

On our way in we stopped in Taihape, the Gumboot Throwing Contest Capital of the world. Gumboot throwing contest you ask? Well, basically, you take a big-ass  rain boot and chuck it as far as you can. Yours truly came in somewhere around 3rd place of the ladies and little chicken arms was about second to last of the men. There is some seriously technique involved.

Everything closes at 5p.m. sharp here and people are just starting to reopen from the holiday so we will do most of our touring around town during the day tomorrow and Thursday. Our time on the bus was AWESOME and will miss our trusty stead, Mr. Scoobs (don’t ask  me why it’s named that!).
