What a great New Year’s Day so far! We spent our evening in the “Barn” of the hostel/lodge we stayed at (which by the way was a mini swiss Robinson-houseish place tucked in the jungle above the ocean) having a dance party with our two friends from SF. It was “sweet-as,” which means cool or sweet in Aussie/kiwi lingo (which sounds like sweet-ass if you ask me!).

This is kind-of what we looked like (but stolen from the Internet - I'll post our pics later!)

This morning we had a sweet early departure for Waitomo. This place has tons of underground caves which are home to thousands of glowworms as well as glowing maggot poop. We suited up in RIDICULOUS wet suits, rubber boots, and hard hats and headed out to the caves. While almost choking in my suit, we slid into the cave (not for the claustrophobic) and grabbed an inner tube and started off. You could see tons of glowing bugs without your head lamps, we trekked through the cave and did some jumps in our inner tube off of waterfalls – we even sung some Journey.

Now we are hanging out waiting for some people that did the longer tour and are heading to a local Maori tribe to learn some sweet dance moves from “Uncle Boy.”

Happy New Year!
