Sassy Sippings: 2009 Barrel Tasting

Birthday Girl

Well, barrel tasting came and went and this sassy sipper did her share of sipping! In celebration of my good friend Clare’s 23rd birthday, we gathered a group of 20 or so to fill our bus/limo/large van and headed north to the Russian River Valley. As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Barrel Tasting brings together the wineries of the Russian River, Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley.

Dry Creek Vineyards

This year we headed to Armida, Wilson, Dry Creek, Kokomo and Papapietro Perry (we tried to hit up Peterson and Amphora but they shut us out at 4p.m. on the dot!). Hands down my personal fave was Dry Creek Vineyards – we were able to taste a good sample of whites which were few are far between at most of the participating vineyards. The Chenin Blanc was especially tasty.

The best food of the day hands down went to Wilson with its tri tip and Cesar salad – delish! And Armida def won the most unique theme with its heaven and hell inspired rooms – although I have always pictured heaven as more of a party…

Despite Marcell the bus/limo/van driver’s frequent back-tracking and lack of direction, we had a great time and definitely celebrated Clare’s b-day the right way – with good friends and wine! I’ve included a lot of pictures below, because we both know that you are more interested in those than my commentary.

Cheers!

I’ve only had 1 driver in wine country who knew where he was going and the most expeditious route to get there. It sounds like you guys did better than us on the foodstuffs – we were STARVING.
