The Prodigal Couch

January 26, 2009

If you haven’t heard Katie and I’s couch story then you do not understand our joy in receiving our couch yesterday.

September 4, 2008 we said goodbye to our beloved couch that the Wentworth family so graciously bestowed upoimg_20581n us. Trying to get that thing into our house was like trying to pull Stephanie Tanners head from the banister minus the butter (if you’re not a Full House fan you won’t understand). 1.5 hours, one bag of chips, one jar of salsa and 4 sweaty backs later (TMI I know I know) we decided to let the couch go.  Hopefully it’s found a new home after we abandoned it on our street corner.

After saying our goodbyes we set out to find a couch. Several craigslist searches, furniture and thrift stores later we reached rock bottom – or should I say we reached the hardwood.  TV was either enjoyed on the floor with our make shift couch out of the 45 blankets we owned or in bed on a laptop. Needless to say we’ve grown fond of our friends Guion, Lauren and Devon’s couch.

Katie spent many a weeknight and weekend searching for THE couch. Well img_2057initially in December Katies heart met its counterpart at Ashley furniture in Rohnert Park.  4 hours and a couple of schmoozie salesmen later Katie picked out what we would hope would be the best couch in the world.  She even convinced them to knock some money off and put it on the “Hot Truck” to get delivered before Christmas (*Note it is now 1/26 and we received the couch on 1/25). Days turned into weeks, one polite call turned into several sassy threats, and the delivery became free (THANK GOD FOR DELIVERY).

Who knew when the couch would arrive – I know I began to lose hope and succumb to the hardwood floor. I even thought I would lose a bet if the couch didn’t come soon (in which I would have had to buy my friend 60Pabst Blue Ribbons – but that’s another story on how I originally bet him the Chargers would win).

Well, if you gather anything from the direction this post is going in then you must realize that there is a happy ending.  We celebrated Katie’s 23rd birthday on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (thanks to the couch). After celebrating at the Rockitimg_20591 Room Saturday, we were all (the 11 people that slept at our house) exhausted, stepped on (stilletos that step on ones foot is not fun) and fearful the couch wouldn’t arrive as promised.

Well we were worried for nothing.  Three trips by the delivery men from Ashely Furniture later and we have our couch.  It took some re-arranging of the furniture, but its A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.  I want to take a day off just to sit on it all day. No more going out – just sitting on the couch.

Maybe if you’re lucky you’ll get to sleep or sit on it, we are taking reservations now. Katie and I calculated that it could fit at least 8 people.

Now I just need to get some scotch guard. SERIOUSLY.

Hey that thing looks like it is almost big enough for me to sleep on. I’ll have to come up there for a weekend and give it the Ryan Seal of Approval 😉
